Red-hot gowns and ravishing ruby jewels topped trends at the 63 rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sept. 18, Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

TV's leading ladies favored form-fitting silhouettes in strapless styles, and shimmering embellishment. Singular jewels rocked the Red Carpet, most notably daring drop earrings and bold cocktail rings flaunting luscious gems likes ruby, emerald, jade, coral, aquamarine, moonstone, and fancy sapphire and diamond.

The gem lavish jewelry of Hollywood designer darling Lorraine Schwartz adorned more than a dozen divas. Standouts include Anna Torv (“Fringe”) dangling 80-carats of carved ruby drop earrings atop a black strapless Vera Wang ; Kerry Washington (“Night Catches Us”) flashed a 10-carat unheated ruby ring against a glittering red Zuhair Murad Fall 2011 Couture ; and Lea Michele (“Glee”) sparkled in ruby earrings and cabochon ruby ring against a high voltage red Marchesa.

Stunner Kelly Osbourne (“Fashion Police”) was a knockout in plum J Mendel gown adorned with bold ruby drop earrings and ruby ring by New York designer Katerina Maxine.

Also ablaze, Heidi Klum popped warm color with fire opal earrings and rings by Lorraine Schwartz in floral leafy designs that include amethyst, and yellow and brown diamonds. The “Project Runway” host wore a strapless champagne cocktail dress with wave tulle edged skirt by past winner Christian Siriano.

Blush in coral, Zooey Deschanel (“New Girl”) wore pink princess dress by Monique Lhuillier with 1984 Estate VCA earrings set with this organic gem.

Green with Envy
Emerald remains a red carpet favorite donned by actresses like Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”) in swirling openwork showcasing 100 carats of Colombian emeralds and fun 6-carat dangle ring complementing a coral red Vera Wang; and Kelly Macdonald (“Boardwalk Empire”) in carved emerald earrings and cabochon emerald ring against a black Stella McCartney—Lorraine Schwartz.

The color of marvelous, emerald also adorned Anna Paquin (“True Blood”) in 1973 Estate Van Cleef & Arpels (VCA) earrings; and Rashida Jones (“Parks & Recreation”) in 1957 Estate VCA earrings featuring emerald beads, rubies and diamonds, 1964 Estate VCA bracelet with cabochon emeralds and rubies, and1962 Estate VCA ruby bracelet.

In 19 th century Fred Leighton, Evan Rachel Wood (“True Blood”) popped vibrant emerald with blue enamel in a stunning ring against her black sequin Elie Saab.

Color Aplenty
Among other amazing designs bursting with color at the Emmy's, Lorraine Schwartz fans Emily Blunt wore a 20-carat blackened sapphire and diamond ring; Jane Krakowski (“30 Rock”) sported a moonstone ring and 50-carat brown diamond drop earrings; and Emmy host Jane Lynch (“Glee”) in multi gem earrings and bangles featuring ruby, emerald, and purple and yellow sapphires.

Gretchen Mol (“Boardwalk Empire”) rocked Art Deco carved jade, onyx, and diamond pendant earrings, and Art Deco carved jade, black enamel, and diamond bracelet—both in platinum by Fred Leighton. Also decked in Leighton: Film star Taraji P. Henson in a 1960's rock crystal and diamond dome platinum ring; Amanda Peet (“How I Met Your Mother” and “Bent”) in 19th century natural pearl and diamond silver on gold bangle; and Christine Baranski (“The Good Wife”) in 1930's sapphire and diamond link platinum bracelets.

Other attention nabbers included Andrea Osvárt (“The Transporter”) in morganite earrings by Dallas Prince for the AGTA Collection ™ ; Kate Linder (“The Young and the Restless”) in pearl and cognac diamond earrings by Baggins and a pearl ring with black and white diamonds by Mastaloni; and producer/writer Veena Sud, Emmy nominee for her scripting of the pilot “The Killing”, in a blue sapphire and diamond bangle by Shaftel Diamonds, all for the AGTA Collection ™.

Also arresting: Colbie Smulders {“How I Met Your Mother”) in 50 carats of aquamarine diamond platinum ring and bracelet by Neil Lane; and in jewels by Farah Khan, Angela Kinsey (“The Office”) in large South Sea cultured pearl drop earrings and Hollywood TV presenter Shaun Robinson in blue topaz and diamond ring and earrings.

Color diamonds continue to draw in admirers including the accomplished Gwyneth Platrow in large emerald-cut black diamond drop earrings and black diamond link bracelet, as well as black onyx and diamond ring; Emmy winner Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”) in black and white diamond earrings and rings, and onyx and diamond bracelet; and Cat Deeley (“Shake It Up”) in 20-carat yellow diamond ring—all set in platinum by Neil Lane.

Even the men flaunted color in accessories like Leslie David Baker (“The Office”) wearing a dagger pin set with 17 carats of zultanite and over a half a carat of rubies by AGTA member Erica Courtney.

Emmy Takeaways:

• Red, color of the moment, can be infused in festive looks with sizzling jewels set with ruby and other spicy gems like fire opal and coral.

• Emerald, a red carpet favorite, continues to grab the spotlight, particularly in sizeable earrings.

• Color diamonds continue to reign, especially in yellow, brown, and black and white motifs.

• Earrings, especially daring drop and fresh chandelier styles, complement diverse necklines from strapless to single shoulder to halter designs.

• Hefty single-stone rings and gem-set bangle, link and cuff bracelets remain celebrity must haves.

• Popular jewelry layered and stacked looks have given way to a focus on a significant signature piece or two, like drop earrings and cocktail ring.

• Red Carpet winners—jewelry that makes you feel good wearing it!
